[5.11] WORLD DAY TO SUPPORT SOUTH MONGOLIA

Southern Mongolians have defended their grasslands from environmental destruction and have endured an endless struggle for freedom, human rights, and dignity. On May 11, 2011, a Chinese developer hit and killed resisting herder Mergen (top left) with a truck and offered him a small compensation, and then verbally abused him, saying, “This is how much Mongolian life is worth.” On October 25, 2016, Mongolian human rights activist and writer Huuchinhuu (top right) died of illness following years of imprisonment, torture, and other persecution by authorities. In September 2020, Mr. Surnaa (bottom left), a Mongolian civil servant, jumped from his home and voluntarily gave up his precious life at the young age of 33, unable to bear the authorities’ forced enforcement of Hanization education. On September 13, 2020, Mr. Ulaan (bottom right), a Mongolian school principal, committed suicide in his home. The reason for his suicide was said to be his refusal to comply with the authorities’ expulsion order for students boycotting classes. Southern Mongolians continue to fight today ……
